In Conversations With: Meet the VARVAL Team

Varval Team: Perla Vargas and Maria Valdez

Hi! For a while, we’ve wanted to do a more in-depth introduction to our team and get to know us better. We’re Perla and Maria the faces behind Varval Home and your friends who would gladly help you to know if that “piece” looks well in that corner because we believe in elevating your spaces with ease and thoughtful design.

What is the central message or philosophy that Varval Team aims to convey through their work?

From the beginning one of our core missions was to craft spaces that truly felt like home to those living in it. We see ourselves as translators of our client’s visions and priorities. No matter their end goal, we’re here for them every detail of the way.

How do your personal backgrounds, interests, and values influence your approach to interior design and client relationships?

One thing we pride ourselves on is our relationship with our clients. At a recent panel, someone asked if we consider ourselves 'friends' with all of them and if it was deliberate. We believe our homes are sacred spaces, and entering into such an intense journey like a construction or renovation, requires a genuine connection and alignment with the team you’re working with. The same goes for the general aesthetic and style. Even though we’ve worked with different projects the essence stays the same, long-lasting spaces and furniture that can go through the test of time.

Can you share a bit about your personal backgrounds and how they have shaped your journey into the world of interior design? Reflecting on your upbringing and cultural background, in what ways do you see these aspects shaping your design aesthetic and client relationships?

Perla as an architect and I as an interior designer, we studied at the same university in the Dominican Republic and even had friends in common but had never fully met until we moved to Barcelona for our master’s degrees. After years of friendship, we discovered that we had a similar design aesthetic that blended Caribbean nostalgia with an understated Mediterranean style.

Looking ahead, what are your aspirations for the future of Varval Team?

Honestly, we hope to keep growing as a team, a few years back we couldn’t imagine where we are now and are excited for what’s to come!

Our path hasn't been easy over these nearly four years. As entrepreneurs, we've faced many challenges and moments where the light at the end of the tunnel seemed dim. However, we have both been the pillars of each other, when one is down the other one gets it together so we can pull through and that has been God sent.

As creatives, our minds are constantly buzzing with ideas. We've learned that taking the time to write down those ideas and set realistic timelines can help in those anxious times. Seeking outside help in areas where we’re not so good at has also been major in our journey as entrepreneurs.

Through the highs and lows, we've gained valuable experience that drives us to continually improve. If our journey resonates with you, we encourage you to persevere and never give up!

If this has gotten you inspired or you feel curious about our work, we invite you to join us as we combine our passion for good design.
